Studio Trigger Reveals New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt Project – News

Original 13-episode series from GAINAX premiered in 2010

Studio Trigger announced at its panel at Anime Expo on Saturday that it is working on a new project for the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt franchise. The staff at the panel showed a short video featuring an animated shot and text with the phrase “NEW PANTY & STOCKING.” The videos featured the main characters each posing with both their middle fingers up.

The 13-episode anime originally aired in 2010. Funimation released the anime on home video in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2019.

Hiroyuki Imaishi directed the anime at GAINAX. Geek Fleet was in charge of series composition, and the music featured songs from Teddyloid, Booty Bronx, Taku Takahashi, and more. Atsushi Nishigori was in charge of the character design.

The Gainax West anime studio had teased a new project for the anime in 2016, and later revealed a “new product” and exhibition for the franchise.

New Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt Anime Announced

The announcement and trailer were revealed during Studio TRIGGER’s 10th Anniversary panel at Anime Expo.

Anime Expo was full of surprise announcements, but none were as surprising as the announced return of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. It has been 12 years since the last Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt anime premiered, although this time it will be helmed by a different studio than the previous installment.

The Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt franchise is a crude, vulgar comedy about two fallen angels who were booted out of heaven for “gross immorality”. Led by their boss and priest Garterbelt, Panty Anarchy and Stocking Anarchy attempt to earn their way back into heaven by exorcising ghosts using their specialized weapons made from their lingerie. However, neither of the Anarchy sisters takes this task seriously.
GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY
The 2010 anime was produced by Gainax, known for anime such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, and Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann. Hiroyuki Imaishi, known for working on both Gurren Lagann and PROMARE, directed Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt before leaving Gainax to begin Studio TRIGGER, who will be taking over the series.

The announcement and trailer were revealed during Studio TRIGGER’s 10th Anniversary panel. The trailer, which at this time is still exclusive to Anime Expo and has not been released to the public, has been reported to have the text “NEW PANTY & STOCKING” alongside a quick animation of the Anarchy Sisters.

The anime has been a long time coming, as the project was originally announced by Gianax back in 2016 through a tweet on their website. However, most who were involved in the project left to join Studio TRIGGER, so the project remained in limbo until this year. The announcement tweet showed silhouettes of the angel sisters, with the promise of another announcement to come soon.

It has not yet been confirmed by Studio TRIGGER if this anime will be a sequel to the series or a total reboot. The original English voice actors for both Panty and Stocking responded to tweets announcing the series but have not confirmed whether they will be returning to the franchise or not. It is also not confirmed what staff will be working on the series yet.

The Long History of Fishnet Stockings

In the few past month alone, Kendall Jenner has worn fishnets paired with clear boots, while Sarah Jessica Parker opted for a pair of statement-making white hosiery. Kate Moss teamed a classic black fishnet stocking with a mini dress. Meanwhile, on the runway, labels like Margiela, Jeremy Scott and Antonio Marras have been reinventing the open, woven stocking into tops and gowns. Why is everyone suddenly gravitating to the shocking style?
Fishnets hold a unique place in fashion—they conceal and reveal at once. Unlike a pair of thick black tights that serve as an item of practicality more than anything else, fishnet stockings eschew utilitarianism and offer up something a bit more paradoxical.
In her essays ‘Holes in the Soul’ for CR Fashion Book, fashion historian Valerie Steele wrote, “The term ‘fishnet,’ meaning a loosely woven fabric, was in use by the early 1880s, but The Oxford English Dictionary dates the use of ‘fishnet stockings’ to 1933.” This timeframe makes sense, given the idea that most women did not expose their legs at all in public until the end of the Victorian era.
Others point to one of Aesop’s fables from the 1900s which alludes to a similar style of modern day fishnets. In The Peasant’s Wise Daughter, the king asks the peasant’s daughter to “Come to me not clothed, not naked, not riding.” She solves the riddle by arriving in a fisherman’s net.
Actress Anne Hart in 1959, rocking her fishnets. Edward Miller/Keystone/Hulton Archive/Getty ImagesThe iconic burlesque entertainer Gypsy Rose Lee often wore fishnet stockings during her performances in the 1930s and 1940s. Just a few years later, pin-ups Bettie Page and Jayne Mansfield would become as well-known for their striking 1950s centerfolds as they would for their personal style: lots of fishnets, sheer fabrics and bikini tops.
However, fishnet-style leg coverings or garments may have been worn during a much earlier date. “In our book, She’s Got Leg: A History of Hemlines and Fashion, my co-author Jane Merrill and I have an image of a jar from the Walter’s Art Museum in Baltimore which dates back to 1500-1520 A.D. that shows a woman with calf-high stockings that look very similar to modern day fishnets,” says fashion historian Keren Ben-Horin. “They were knit-like contemporary stockings but probably looped or woven to create the pattern.”
Fast forward to a more modern approach to wearing the storied style: the fishnet has long been favored by models, movie stars and the women of Hollywood, likely because of its glamorous lines and lack of practicality. During the 1950s, Elizabeth Taylor appeared in portraits wearing fishnet stockings with bodysuits and dresses. Interestingly enough, Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot—both actresses who were also trained as ballerinas—also wore fishnet stockings during this decade.
A model from 1967 in fishnet tights. Getty ImagesJust 20 years later, the way women wore fishnets would change again. The traditional, small diamond-net styles expanded and were modified to fit in with punk culture. Rips within the holes were made with intent and purpose; designers during the time supported the very same vision. “Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood went on to become established, respected, and followed high-end designers, and they peppered their style with these touches of punk, these elements that alluded to sex– blurring gender lines like fishnets,” said Ben-Horin. “I think a lot of the meanings we ascribe to fishnets today, that wild, untamed sexiness, a kind of empowered femininity comes from these designers and the subcultures that influenced their work.”

Today, nearly six decades after the fishnet stocking made its mainstream debut, the world–and the it-girls of Instagram–are still captivated by it.

What’s the Big Deal About Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt? – This Week in Anime

Over a decade after its initial run, Trigger is picking up the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt anime for a sequel. But what separates this series from other anime? Two words: Unapologetic crudeness.

This series is streaming on Crunchyroll

Nick

Chris, I’d like to welcome you to the TWIA team. And as it’s somehow become a tradition for us to jump in new members with something horny that is tangentially related to their interests, I figure what better place to start than a show that gave us Fucky Transformers?

Chris

Turns out the crew that would go on to give us a whole series starring Transformers gijinkas knew exactly what I wanted even back in the ancient past of 2010.

Yep, somehow against all odds, the Half-Life 3 of anime sequels was announce a Trigger’s big Anime Expo panel. Which gave us a nice excuse to revisit that crew’s last big hurrah before they left Gainax from way back at the turn of the last decade.

And if any of our readers have never heard of this one, do not let the Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi aesthetic trick you. This column’s probably gonna need age gating for a very good reason.

Amazing that a show that seemed tailor-made for Adult Swim probably has enough content in its dialogue and action that it would have been too spicy to air on Adult Swim.

Seriously though, do not read this on your work’s wi-fi. Even the visualized sound effects are enough to get you called into HR.

Meanwhile, we’re combing through these episodes getting screenshots of the frames of those characteristic criminal captions specifically FOR work. This is a series that supposedly has over 400 swear words over the course of its script, and while I don’t think we need to match that level in column form, readers will definitely be getting a taste of that salty language.

As well as a taste of salty…other things.

Yeah, so if you’re new to Hiroyuki Imaishi, or only know his work through (relatively) more restrained recent stuff like Promare, just know this show is essentially a distilled, concentrated shotgun blast of what defined his reputation among anime fans for a good long while. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is less a traditional television show and more an excuse for the rowdy house of Gainax to see how angry they could make TV censors. And the answer was Very.

The story goes that Imaishi and his Funky Bunch went out after finishing up Gurren Lagann, getting a bunch of drinks to unwind. As you do, they started throwing out ideas for what their next series was going to be, coming up with the concepts of the main characters ‘Panty’ and ‘Stocking’, and just generally getting as rowdy and raunchy with their ideas as they could.

What followed was essentially the biggest remaining names at Gainax playing The Penis Game with their boss’ money. And while it’s not exactly aged perfectly, it’s undeniably a unique creation that could only come from these creators at that particular point in their careers.

Imaishi’s “Sex and Violence at Machspeed” approach to animated action has always driven his ability to just go hog-wild at putting his id on screen in projects, and it shows in Panty & Stocking’s…unique kinds of content.

And the crew’s love of western animation and comics comes through in the visual style.
Do you get the idea that maybe the people who added this dog sidekick into the show enjoy the works of Jhonen Vasquez?

If I remembered anything about Invader Zim I would make a joke here, but the only part of that series still in my brain is just Gir saying “duty”. So here’s a giant turd instead of a punchline.

Which…pretty much sums up the effectiveness of the ‘humor’ part of PSG’s sense of humor, in my opinion. Even back in 2010, when a younger, more-easily-amused me got totally sucked into the show, I never really thought it was especially funny. This is a show that basically has one joke, and that joke is “What looks like a mid-2000’s Cartoon Network production has a bunch of swearing and boning.”

It’s an approach that effectively leaves you with the early spectacle of something like South Park (which the crew at Gainax were also noticeable fans of) but without any of the attempts at satire, and even beyond the parts that have since aged poorly, never made for the laugh-a-minute content it was so clearly shooting for.

I think by around episode five I’d started mentally calling it Nightcore South Park. It harkens to the early seasons of that show where they’d build entire episodes around “this is a talking piece of poop who speaks like a children’s mascot” and just riff on that, but PSG does that in half the time at twice the speed. Like literally the first half-episode it about the main characters fighting a poop ghost…

Lizzo Paired Her String Bikini With Fishnet Stockings and Pearls

Leave it to Lizzo to take the oddest fashion combo and make it work. The singer is known for her bold choices in both music and style, and her latest trip to the beach didn’t stray from her usual M.O.

On Sunday, Lizzo shared a few thirst traps from her vacation, in which she wore a Good American hot pink terrycloth string bikini with black Chanel fishnet stockings. She accessorized with body pearls by the designer and visor shades that matched her swimwear. In the first selfie, the singer stood beneath a shower head, rinsing off after the beach. The other images captured the hitmaker striking different poses on the beach. The Instagram carousel also celebrated the success of her banger (and arguably song of the summer), “It’s About Damn Time.”

“#1 SONG IN THE COUNTRY AND I AINT EVEN IN THE COUNTRY ASS BITCH 🥵,” she wrote alongside the gallery in honor of her song going number one.

The same day she shared a video to her grid in the chaotic beach look. After squealing and laughing she said to the camera, “I remember when I was telling my friend’s mom what my major in college was gonna be, and I told her I was going to major in music performance. And she laughed in my face. She said, ‘Music performance? Like Beyoncé?’ And she laughed in my face. Only have one thing to say: ‘BYE.'”

The singer then held up her phone which was playing Beyoncé and Madonna’s “Break My Soul (Queen’s Remix).” The tune lists off a slew of iconic Black women in the same spoken-word fashion as Madonna’s song “Vogue.” “Rosetta Tharpe, Santigold, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone/ Betty Davis, Solange Knowles, Badu, Lizzo, Kelly Rowl/ Lauryn Hill, Roberta Flack Toni, Janet, Tierra Whack/ Missy, Diana, Grace Jones, Aretha, Anita, Grace Jones/ Helen Folasade Adu, Jilly from Philly, I love you, boo.”

“I ALWAYS BELIEVED IN ME NOW BEYONCÉ BELIEVE IN ME TOO,” Lizzo captioned the post.

Celebrate 2022: By the chimney with care? Not quite – Stockings, socks, on St. Nicholas Eve

CELEBRATE 2022 – Christmas was so confusing when I was a kid.
Take for example the poem “ ’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” in which it says “the stockings were hung by the chimney with care.”
Nobody I knew had a chimney or a fireplace.
And hanging stockings the night before Christmas?
We didn’t do that at our house.
But I knew about those special stockings. Fat and wide, made of plush red or green fabric, they were decorated with sparkly gold stitchery that spelled out “Debbie” or “Johnny” or whatever your name might be. This wasn’t some kind of fancy footwear. These stockings just hung around and waited for Santa Claus to stuff them with goodies on Christmas Eve.
Our “stockings” went up nearly three weeks before Christmas, on Dec. 5, which was St. Nicholas Eve. And we didn’t “hang” them. We draped them over an upstairs railing.
Oh, and these were REAL socks.
For Dad, it was one of the black stretchy dress socks that he wore to church on Sundays; for Mom it would be a single silky nylon stocking, the kind that clipped to a girdle or garter belt.
Mine was a knee sock, and in an effort to be festive, I’d select something colorful, like an argyle. Because it was the 1960s, I could have put out an electric green fishnet stocking but I didn’t want St. Nick to have to fumble with all that mesh.
Little brother? Well, he would just dig out a white cotton crew sock. Sometimes it was unwashed, pulled out from under his bed. Ewww!
The treats we found in our hose weren’t too exciting, either.
More: Celebrate 2022 – Traditions, Food, Gifts, Memories
Mom was a health nut. She had a Dannon yogurt maker and didn’t allow us to drink soda. Our socks were usually stuffed with packs of sugarless gum, mini boxes of raisins, a ballpoint pen and maybe a dollar bill. If you were really lucky, you got a roll of rainbow Lifesavers.
Why did we do this? I recently asked my 91-year-old mom and my brother what they remembered.
Question: Why did we hang socks on St. Nicholas Eve?
Mom: “I got that from my parents, who came from Poland. My sister and I hung our stockings over the fireplace. It was an artificial fireplace. I can still picture it in my head.”
Q: What kind of stockings?
Mom: “I can’t remember, but I know they were real socks. Maybe it was a knee sock. And there were no stockings on Christmas Eve.”
Q: What did St. Nick put in your stocking?
Mom: “If you were good you got candy. If you were bad you got a potato or coal.”
Q: What do you remember about St. Nicholas Eve?
Brother: “My sock was definitely a white crew sock with stripes on it. Like a gym sock.”
Q: And the treats?
Brother: “Oh yeah, I remember the sugarless gum, Carefree or Trident. Sometimes I got a box of Cracker Jack. That was my favorite. I seem to remember some change at the bottom of the sock, too.
Q: What do you think of this tradition?
Brother: “I don’t remember any other kids doing this. And it’s not a tradition I carried on with my kids. We did more of the traditional Christmas-morning stocking.”
Ho ho ho, so there you have it. A family mystery unraveled.
P.S. — If you try this at home, do hang your stockings with care, far from the fire in the fireplace. Polyester and other Franken-fabrics are not flame retardant.
The real St. NickLong before Santa Claus there was St. Nicholas, an early Christian bishop of Greek descent who lived during the fourth century in what is now Turkey.
The history is sketchy, but apparently he was a generous man who liked to surprise people with gifts. According to one story, he saved three girls from being forced into prostitution by dropping sacks of gold coins through the window of their house so they would each have a dowry and could be married. Another story tells of a miracle in which he calmed a stormy sea on a ship bound for the Holy Land, and for this reason, in Greece and Italy, he is revered by sailors and fishermen.
The American Santa Claus and the British Father Christmas were inspired by the legends of St. Nicholas, who the Dutch call “Sinterklaas.”
Today, in many European countries, children hang stockings or put out their boots or shoes on St. Nicholas Eve.
In the United States the tradition was continued by German, Polish, Belgian and Dutch immigrants until the Christmas Eve Santa Claus and his reindeer took over.

Long Island Medium Theresa Caputo, 55, shows off her toned legs in a skintight silver mini dress & fishnet stockings

THERESA Caputo looked gorgeous in a skintight silver cocktail dress paired with white fishnet stockings and galactic booties.
The Long Island Medium has been showing off her figure in various revealing looks after welcoming her first grandchild.

The reality star took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to share a snap with her pal Christiaan Choy.
The TV personality posed with her tanned leg draped over the creative consultant’s knee as she popped her head back in laughter.
Theresa sported a skin-tight reflective silver dress with long sleeves, sexy white fishnet stockings, and futuristic silver booties to match.

Her friend posed in a white suit with a v-neck sweater and matching loafers for the special day.
The TLC star captioned her post with a Happy Birthday gif.
BEACH BABE
Theresa’s edgy outfit came amid a series of sexy snaps she’s been sharing on social media.
Last week, the mother of two stunned in a two-piece bikini while hitting the beach with family and friends.

The new grandmother jet-setted off on a Florida vacation where she sported a two-piece hot pink suit and a white cover-up while posing for photos with her cousins.
She completed the look with a pair of sunglasses and part of her blonde locks tied back in her new signature poof.
The group stood outside for the shot with a view of palm trees and the ocean behind them.
Theresa captioned the post: “Day off with the cousins #family #longislandmedium #cousins #wemayhavehadafewlemondrops.”
The 55-year-old posted photos from her travels earlier this month while spending time with friends in the sunshine state.
The reality star posed with her pals, wearing a white mini dress, blue jacket, and Converse sneakers in one pic.
She modeled another leg-baring mini dress in black in a second snap, complete with a black-feathered trim.
Theresa included the caption: “Back at it,” adding the hashtags “livetheexperience” and “longislandmedium.”
FAN COMPLIMENTS
Fans have frequently commented that the medium is aging gracefully.
Theresa showed off her legs in a sparkly skirt earlier this month while celebrating 10 years of her show.
Fans thought she looked decades younger and loved her outfit as well.
“You look wonderful! And so young!!!!!!” commented one fan.
“You look amazingly beautiful,” said another.
Theresa’s youthful glow has remained despite welcoming her first grandchild in February.
FIRST TIME GRANDMA
Her daughter Victoria welcomed a baby girl with her husband, Michael Mastrandrea, on the 22nd, just before midnight.
But the reality star has caused concern among fans as she’s shared multiple photos with long pointy acrylic nails while holding the newborn.
‘CAREFUL WITH THE CLAWS’
In one photo, Theresa’s sharp nails rested dangerously close to the child’s head.
“Careful with those nails,” one person shared, as another added: “Don’t stab her with those claws!”
It was a similar reaction to one made just days after the child’s arrival, when the star sat cross-legged in the living room while holding the tiny baby, dressed in leather leggings, a black hoodie, spiked black booties, with her signature bouffant hair.
The TV personality cradled Michelina, who wore a bright blue onesie for her day with grandma.
However, fans were much more concerned about the length of her nails while holding the baby.
Upon closer inspection, Theresa sported one-inch-long white acrylic nails filed into a point.
Many of her followers raced to the comments to share their concerns over the “dangerous” situation.
“Might have to rethink those false nails now Grandma,” one suggested.
“Those nails are too long and sharp to be around a newborn,” a second agreed.

A third commented: “Just a PSA… I know you love ‘em but changing a baby’s clothes or diapers with those nails is gonna be an issue.”
“How do you manage a baby and all it encompasses with those nails,” another laughed.
