The Hiroyuki Imaishi-directed crass parody of the animation genre returns with a brand new project for Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt announced today at Studio TRIGGER’s Anime Expo panel. Alongside the announcement, the anime project got a teaser trailer for the now 12-year-old series, as well as a “new” name, though both haven’t been released publicly at this time. 

The trailer showed text “NEW PANTY & STOCKING” at the end alongside new animation of the two fallen angels. 

The first Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt anime aired from October 2010 to December 2010 from Hiroyuki Imaishi (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, PROMARE) at Gainax prior to leaving the studio to help found studio TRIGGER. The new Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt project will be produced TRIGGER, though as of writing the staff, cast and release time have not been confirmed.

The first Guardians Of The Galaxy movie was released in 2014, and received critical acclaim. The film raked in a whopping $773.3 million in the global box office, and also received two Oscar nominations.The sequel, simply titled Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, was released three years later in 2017, and garnered even higher box office numbers with $863.8 million in global sales.The premise of the third film follows Peter Quill, who is ‘still reeling from the loss of Gamora’ as he ‘allies his team to defend the universe and one of their own – a mission that could mean the end of the Guardians,’ according to an IMDB synopsis.  The director of the project, James Gunn said during an interview with Rolling Stone published earlier this month, James hinted at the opening song in the Guardians Vol. 3 film. The movies are known for its catchy soundtracks, however, the music in the third film will help set a ‘different tone.’ ‘It starts with Radiohead’s acoustic version of ‘Creep.’ And that’s just a much different tone from the beginning than the other two films,’ he revealed. Chris also opened up to the outlet about the last movie in the trilogy and stated that it has, ‘matured in its emotionality the same way that probably the audience has matured.’ He further explained, ‘The kids who loved Guardians were teenagers, and now they’re in their mid-twenties, and it’s really exciting to think that they’re ready for this movie the way that they might not have been nine years ago.’ Pratt also reflected on how his career has completely changed since he joined the Marvel universe. ‘My entire life is different now because of Marvel, because of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Byleth was announced as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 1’s fifth and final challenger on January 16, 2020 and later released on January 28, 2020. While the reception towards the fighter was initially lukewarm, fans of the Super Smash Bros. series eventually learned to enjoy the inclusion despite the fact that Byleth is the eighth Fire Emblem rep on the character select screen.








Notably, the female version of Byleth has become a popular cosplay choice. As such, Chloe “Jajankuro” has a number of photos depicting herself as Byleth on her Instagram page.








It’s often said that one of the most difficult parts about recreating female Byleth’s look for the purpose of cosplaying her is the recreation of her unique pattern fishnet stockings that shows random bits of Byleth’s legs. Of course, it would appear that Jajankuro has opted for a different design of Byleth’s leggings, though they seem to be equally as complicated looking.

Another key feature about Byleth is the weapon that she wields. Jajankuro has plenty of shots of her Byleth as she’s wielding the legendary Sword of the Creator.

Female Byleth also has a peculiar part of her costume known as a “stomach window.” It’s almost like a cleavage window, except it seems to be specifically designed to show off Byleth’s belly button.

Over on her Twitter page, Jajankuro has posted a couple of shots of her Byleth with a dark teal color. For context, this is the second costume for Byleth in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (since male Byleth is the default appearance).

Byleth takes on this appearance for about half of Fire Emblem: Three Houses until a certain event causes Byleth to essentially “fuse” with Sothis. Funnily enough, Byleth’s hair color neither resembles that of her parents, Jeralt and Sitri.

By doing this, it’s demonstrated that Byleth can tear through dimensions while using the Sword of the Creator. Canonically, this transformation makes Byleth quite powerful, though it actually doesn’t impact gameplay that greatly. Of course, it should be noted that Byleth is generally considered to be the best unit in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, with or without this transformation.

In terms of how it affects gameplay, Byleth’s Professor’s Guidance personal skill transforms into the Professor’s Guidance+ personal skill. In addition to granting 20% experience gain to the user and adjacent allies like the Professor’s Guidance skill, Byleth also deals an additional two damage during combat.

After that specific chapter is finished with, Byleth will then gain access to the Enlightened One class, a class exclusive to Byleth. Though it provides the most proficiencies out of all the classes in the game with four of them, its stat growths are, ironically, not all that impressive.

Oddly, however, it has been demonstrated that Byleth can undergo this transformation in Fire Emblem: Three Hopes (released June 24, 2022) without fusing with Sothis. Needless to say, fighting Byleth with this hair color proves to be a much greater challenge than fighting him or her with their default hair color.

Regardless, this is Byleth’s eighth costume color in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Like with all costumes in Smash, choosing these colors will have no impact on Byleth’s gameplay.

Overview:There are very few anime which don’t take themselves seriously and even fewer of these titles end up being released in North America. Sometimes when these anime are brought overseas, they are adjusted for the audience, similar to how FUNimation took Shin Chan, which was primarily a children’s show and turned it into a raunchy riot full of pop culture references and more.
On the other hand, FUNimation’s most recent release, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, or better known simply as Panty & Stocking, doesn’t need any special adjustments. Instead, FUNimation has brought forth perhaps one of the foulest mouthed anime to come out of Japan and they have done so in uncensored form, giving the actors free reign with their dialogue. Does Panty & Stocking contain enough wrong to make it so right for your money?
Story:Daten City lies between the border of Heaven and Hell and because of its unfortunate location, the city is always plagued by evil spirits that take the form of various ghosts. The ghosts can come in all shapes and sizes and can cause mass chaos and destruction whenever they form. However the citizens of the city are not on their own, as two angels reside in the city under the eye of the local priest. Now if only one of them could stop having sex with anything that moves while the other is too busy eating anything sweet.

These two angels, called the Anarchy sisters are Panty and Stocking. They have been kicked out of Heaven due to the fact that their behavior is unbecoming of a heavenly being. To try and buy their way back into heaven they must destroy any ghosts they come across and receive Heaven Coins by making them “repent.” These two are monitored by an over the top priest named Garterbelt and are accompanied by their… pet like creature named Chuck.
Now while this may sound like a relatively simple story all on its own, that promises chances at redemption and plenty of action, it is far from it. The reason for this is simply because Panty & Stocking really never takes itself seriously as a show, thus creating some of the most off the wall and unpredictable antics viewers will likely ever see.
Panty is a nymphomaniac who would be much happier spending her time sleeping with four guys at once, while Stocking is a glutton for sweets who happens to love bondage, which seems to be trait shared with the priest Garterbelt. Throughout the series these two angels act like anything but angels, often causing more damage than the ghosts themselves, all while swearing like sailors.

With this off the wall style, there is pretty much zero continuity between episodes barring a minor closing story arc. Instead the story mostly follows a monster of the week type style with the Anarchy sisters screwing and eating anything that moves, then fighting against whatever adversary pops up to stop their fun. But you know what? This formula and style work perfectly when combined together, creating an unpredictable laugh-riot of a show that will be impossible to forget.
Visuals:Interestingly enough, Gainax began creating Panty & Stocking with a style similar to what they had called “American Animation” and then ran with a rather simplistic looking art style that featured the characters appearing with slightly pointy character models. However the art style found in Panty & Stocking changes abruptly from time to time, either dropping in quality to an even more simplistic style which appears to be mocking “chibi” comedy moments.

Along these same lines there are a number of times that the animation will take a drastic turn for the better, such as during transformation scenes, where the artwork will become extremely detailed and high in quality. While shifting in quality like this would usually be a detriment for a series, Panty & Stocking makes it feel like these shifts are also part of the series’ jokes.
Audio:As standard with a FUNimation release, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt does contain the original Japanese voice track for those who would prefer it, though all of the rolled R’s and Japanese voice actors swearing in English can’t compare to what FUNimation has done with the English dub of the show.

Panty is voiced by Jamie Marchi while Monica Rial is handling the voice of Stocking and hearing these two go at one another and saying their outrageous lines is absolutely wonderful. Each voice actor has done a stellar job bringing these characters to life, and this praise doesn’t just end at the main characters. Even Colleen ClinkenBeard, Scanty’s voice, Cherami Leigh, Kneesocks’ voice, and Garterbelt’s voice actor Christopher Sabat have outdone themselves with this raunchy show.
The stellar voice acting of the series is accompanied by some stellar music as well. While Panty & Stocking may feature a rather simple opening song, the…
