Invader Zim Vs Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt

Anyway, this is PASWG (oh by the way don’t even google image search the abbreviation, you get “pawg” instead which stands for Phat Ass White Girl apparently) from Gainax.Net. Big (ish) in Japan, expect it to do quite well in America along the usual colonial lines, with the standard amount of complaints from concerned parents. You know the drill. But say… doesn’t that the dog-type creature look a little familiar?
Yes that one. Surely reminiscent of Gir from Jhonen Vasquez’ Invader Zim?

Just a tad…
In Swipe File we present two or more images that resemble each other to some degree. They may be homages, parodies, ironic appropriations, coincidences or works of the lightbox. The Swipe File doesn’t judge, it’s interested more in the process of creation, how work influences other work, how new work comes from old, and sometimes how the same ideas emerge simultaneously, as if their time has just come. The Swipe File was named after the advertising industry habit where writers and artist collect images and lines they admire to inspire them in their work. First Impressions – Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt

Honesty compels me to admit that I had serious doubts about this one going in, despite the initial fan buzz. I’m pretty much a Gainax otaku – I’m in awe of their best work and pretty much willing to give any series a chance simply because it’s Gainax. And the driving force behind this one is Hiroyuki Imaishi, the director of Gurren-Laggan – a series whose GAR greatness needs no embellishment here.
But this concept didn’t do much for me. The concept of a sort of super-ecchified Powerpuff Girls has novelty value, but I worry that’s all it is – novelty. And indeed that pre-series description turned out to be pretty much accurate for a series that would have looked much more at home on Adult Swim than Japanese TV. Your basic premise is two Angels – one a blonde slut and one a blue-haired glutton – who cause wanton destruction under the guise of fighting evil ghosts under the direction of their boss Garterbelt, who appears to be something of a cross between Shaquile O’Neal and Bosley from “Charlie’s Angels”. All of this seems little more than an excuse to unleash as many sex and shit jokes and profanities as possible in 22 minutes.
If all that sounds strange, it doesn’t even begin to do justice to how strange this actually is. I get that Gainax is really trying to push the boundaries of what’s acceptable in terms of content and trying to double the impact with the art style. And none of the sex or shit or swearing bothers me – I just don’t find it all that funny once the shock value wears off. On the one hand I don’t see anything in here that looks like it can sustain a series – we’re certainly not going to see any character development, based on the premiere. I don’t especially enjoy the art style or the type of show the humor is based on – Aqua Teen Hunger Force, etc. On the other hand, this is Gainax and Imaishi – so maybe I just have to have faith and hope for the best.

Review: “Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt” Complete Series: Stay Classy, Gainax

I won’t beat around the bush: Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is a wasted opportunity. Here we have a show that should have been a lot of fun: It’s brimming with visual creativity, sports a unique look compared to many modern anime, and doesn’t take itself seriously at all. In many ways, it shares aspects with certain American cartoons, which can be a nice change of pace if you’re burnt out on the usual material. Unfortunately, all of these positives are undermined by a relentlessly crude and childish humor, uneven animation, and a dub whose sole purpose is to cram in as many four-letter words as humanly possible.
The premise for the show is pretty basic, and is essentially an excuse for the characters to participate in pop culture parodies: Two fallen angels have to gain a certain number of coins to regain entrance to Heaven; they receive coins by destroying supernatural threats that terrorize the city. The two angels are Panty, an unapologetic slut whose panties can transform into a gun when removed, and Stocking, a sweets-obsessed gothic lolita whose stockings become a sword. They’re sent on missions by Garterbelt, an exasperated preacher with a giant afro. Among the many villains is a ghost who can possess vehicles (including a bullet train), a cheerleader at a high school who is literally a queen bee, and a feces monster, among many others. The only recurring villains are a demon duo, Scanty and Kneesocks, who are basically bizarro versions of Panty and Stocking.
As I said above, the humor in Panty and Stocking is a real letdown. It’s the epitome of the misguided idea that a bunch of curse words and nonstop sex jokes automatically equals “adult”. Well, it doesn’t. If anything, it comes across as incredibly immature. The show has a monotonous, one-track mind when it comes to the humor. Nearly all the jokes boil down to two things: toilet humor, and “Panty is a whore.” It starts to get old after the first episode. Ditto for the volleying name-calling and insults between Panty and Stocking (and towards everyone else, for that matter), which feels very mean-spirited for no reason, and makes it impossible to like the main characters. And just in case you think I’m prudish about the content, I’m not. Scatological and insult humor can be done right; it’s all in the execution. This just felt foul for the sake of it. And unrelated to all of this, it’s also repetitive in certain aspects; I greatly enjoyed a gag in the first episode where the defeated villain was suddenly presented in live action when it exploded. But when every episode ends this way, it loses its freshness.
This is all incredibly disappointing since the overall look of the show is original and stands out from the crowd; it feels wasted on such crass material. But even so, the actual animation is a mixed bag. On the plus side, it always has dynamic poses and staging, and you can tell the artists had fun working on it and putting their own personal touches to the direction. The thick lined, super deformed character designs are an acquired taste, but I didn’t mind them (although the transformation sequences, displaying the two characters in non-SD mode, are more traditionally attractive). But the animation doesn’t always have a smooth look: It looked like they just used key frames for certain scenes. It’s a recurring problem from Gainax, actually. And I also spot what looked like Flash tweening in places (that is, just sliding a part of a character’s body without making a new drawing). I also had issues with the show’s comic timing, which felt “off” far too often, although I suspect that’s more about the differences in Japanese and American humor styles and not inherent problems in the direction.
Admittedly, Panty and Stocking wasn’t exactly the cleanest show in its original Japanese, so I’m not claiming FUNimation pulled a Shin-chan by taking a relatively family friendly show and making it filthy, but even so, the dub feels like it’s trying too hard to be edgy. The constant swearing and nicknames for anything below the waist, all written and delivered without wit, gets draining in short order. And while Jami Marchi and Monica Rial are well-cast as Panty and Stocking, respectively, they also don’t feel like very creative casting choices. The only positive thing I can say about the dub is about the opening to episode 3-2, “Pulp Addiction”, where literally every sentence said by some soldiers can double for a sexual euphemism. Yes, it’s sex-obsessed, but at least it has some variety in the sense that it’s enjoyable to see how they take familiar war movie dialog and make it dirty while still playing the scene relatively straight.
The three-disc DVD set includes all 13 episodes (most made up of two shorts each) and the special episode “Panty & Stocking in Sanitarybox”, which is a series of shorts running about 1 to 2 minutes each. The animation is inferior to the…

Kylie Jenner’s fishnet stockings have the most perfect holiday twist

Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that the Kardashian/Jenner sisters are major trend-setters. I mean, basically anything the ladies post on Instagram or on their subscription blogs instantly sells out. Case in point: Kylie took to Instagram to post the most amazing pair of fishnet stockings, and we want them on our legs and in our lives.

But this is Kylie Jenner we’re talking about, so they aren’t just any old fishnet stockings. Her fishnets are also decked out in rhinestones that not only make them gorgeous, but also make them perfect for the holidays!
Check out Jenner’s fierce fishnets in the Insta post below:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BNgW0_OBPIC
The stockings are gorgeous and would look stunning paired with a holiday dress. After all, what’s a better way to ring in the New Year than by adding a the perfect fishnets to complete your celebratory look?
Jenner also posted an Insta video, showing off the sparkles from all angles:

While you can find an exact pair of your own from dbleudazzled (for 100-125 bucks!), you can also check out these slightly more budget-friendly dupes:

If you’re looking for a subtle sparkle at an affordable price, look no further than ASOS Glitter Fishnet Tights. For only $9.50, these could work for any occasion.

However, if you’re looking to spend a little bit more, Etsy store BikinisParadise is selling stockings at a whole range of sizes beginning at $35. They’re pretty similar to Jenner’s pair without being too expensive.
This holiday season, we definitely plan on taking a page out of Jenner’s book with these stockings. As usual, the Kardashian and Jenner girls are here to give us style pointers and we’re more than okay with that. ✨

HOOKED ON THE GARTER BELT

Speaking of garter belts . . .The world may be full of pantyhose and sensible shoes, but not everyone has forgotten the charms of silk stockings held up by a sliver of lace and elastic. “They’re a constant seller,” says Cindy Belcher, manager of the Pleasure Place in Georgetown. “A lot of customers wear them as a staple in their wardrobe. Either they feel it’s more comfortable, or they feel more attractive.”Time was when the fairer sex used to battle with garter belts on a daily basis, pulling and snapping and driving men crazy. Then some idiot invented pantyhose, and legs were never the same. Now garter belts are purchased primarily for their sex appeal, and range from the frothy confections from Frederick’s of Hollywood to the discreet eroticism of Victoria’s Secret.”We’re one of the top destinations for bridal shower gifts and brides-to-be,” says Victoria’s Secret spokeswoman Monica Mitro. “They’re great for weddings.”Women of all ages buy most of the garter belts, although men give the market a boost around Valentine’s Day. You can find them just about anywhere, from the chic-est department stores to the trashiest novelty shops.Last year, Frederick’s alone sold 110,682 garter belts. “It’s a million-dollar business for us,” says a spokesman. “Our best-selling color is black, then white and red for the holidays.”White or cream is the overwhelming choice for brides; the most popular style overall is black satin, followed by red or purple lace. They are most often accessorized with lace-topped, seamed or fishnet stockings.”There aren’t many people who don’t like the way a garter belt looks,” says Belcher.

Serena Williams Wore Sequins, a Sheer Garter Belt and Plaid — All at the Same Time

[MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC]Serena Williams did not come to play. (Not this time, at least.)The 37-year-old tennis star stepped out in a major fashion look with her husband Alexis Ohanian, 35, on Wednesday evening to attend Adweek’s 2018 Brand Genius Awards gala in New York City. Williams was honored with the trade publication’s Brand Visionary Award, which was presented by Vogue editor-in-chief (and one of Serena’s pals), Anna Wintour. While the event was filled with a number of stylish attendees, the athlete stole the show in a cleavage-baring Vera Wang midi dress, featuring an interesting mix of plaid and silver sequins as well as a sheer garter belt. Gainax’s PANTY AND STOCKING WITH GARTERBELT Sets A New Standard In ADD Editing.

How manic is the first trailer for Gainax’s Panty And Stocking With Garterbelt – a series described over at Anime Nation as “Powerpuff Girls with sex”? So manic that I do believe it could actually cause ADD in those who watch it. Guh. This actually appeared last week but I was so caught up with Toronto Film Festival preparations that I didn’t actually look at it until now, while procrastinating from writing yet another TIFF film review. But I digress. The art actually looks quite fun but, good lord do I ever hope they tone down the editing. Check it below.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt – Otaku USA Magazine

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

by Joseph Luster
October 5, 2010

So it appears that—surprise, surprise—the latest series from Gainax is one of the more divisive additions to the fall anime season. That outcome was likely predicted by most the moment the first trailer aired for Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, a series as dependent on “wild and zany” anime antics as it is the American cartoon styling it liberally dumps into the mix.
As if to highlight this intentionally low-brow excursion right off the bat, the first half-episode’s plot deals with a horrendous plague we all fear on a daily basis: people getting sucked into their toilets. This messy fate is guaranteed from the outset to befall one of our two heroines at some point, whether it be the sexed-out Panty or the sweets-craving Stocking. Whatever or whoever’s behind it, the two will no doubt take them out extravagantly, with the help of fro’d-out bossman Garterbelt and the Jhonen Vasquez-yoinked Gir clone, Chuck.
Cue shameless barf, crap and sex gags, along infrequent bursts of over the top rubberband animation that fits the concept like a glove. What, did you expect any sense of shame from a show called Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt? If not, you’re in for a treat, because director Hiroyuki Imaishi (Dead Leaves, Gurren Lagann) pulls out a lot of his stylistic tricks here, mixing different animation techniques to create the kind of referential Gainax hodge-podge that’s worth watching just to see where they’ll take it next.
The first real taste of this multi-flavored concoction comes when Panty and Stocking go into their “transformation”—Panty’s undies become a gun, Stocking’s stocking lashes out in electric blue sword slashes—and our heroines jump into lovingly rendered and fetishistically drawn-out stripper pole gyrations out of nowhere. There are a few other switch-ups, both hilarious and head-scratching in turn, but it wouldn’t do to spoil them all here.

The first episode of Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is anything but dull. As the look of the show would lead one to believe, it borrows aspects of American cartoons—especially those that have aired on Cartoon Network over the years—that extend well beyond the seemingly innocent snatching of one particular character design. The format of shows like Powerpuff Girls is utilized nicely, splitting the show in twain to facilitate two back-to-back bite-sized stories.

Fans of Gainax and, more specifically, Imaishi should definitely give the show a spin. It’s a little Dead Leaves, a little Invader Zim, and a little stupid in an entertaining way. I’d be a little concerned with how well the show would hold up over a full season, but 13 episodes sounds just about right for what this is.
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is available streaming via Crunchyroll.
