Taking to her Instagram before Blake’s country music performance, she let her fans have a peek at the ensemble she was ready to rock for the evening.

The “Hollaback Girl” hitmaker was dressed to impress in a black crop top, cut off shorts and fishnet stockings. She topped off the country-chic look with a black-and-red buffalo check shirt and a pair of big cowboy boots, which she mentioned in her caption. “thank u @blakeshelton for giving me an excuse to buy these @dsquared2 cowboy boots. gx,” she wrote. The couple — who married in July of 2021 – are going stronger than ever. Western-style weddings are overwhelmingly popular in Japan, and especially among young couples, outnumber Japanese-style ceremonies by a wide margin. In many ways, Western ceremonies in Japan are similar to what you’d see in the U.S. The bride wears a dress, the groom a tuxedo, and the pair exchanges vows and seals the deal with a kiss. The reception, likewise, usually involves toasts, a fancy dinner, and a bouquet toss.
But despite Japan’s rather open obsession with women’s undergarments, the garter toss isn’t a wedding tradition here. But the absence of a male equivalent to the bouquet toss has been noticed by some who are soon to be married, and they’ve hit upon the offbeat solution of having the men in attendance try to catch a bunch of broccoli thrown by the groom.

The broccoli toss seems to be a recent development, and as such isn’t really an accepted part of a conservative, stately wedding reception. For brides, grooms, and guests willing to show their playful side, though, it’s becoming an increasingly popular, if still very unorthodox, inclusion.

But…why broccoli? It turns out there’re actually a few schools of thought. One holds that the manner in which broccoli grows, with many stems branching out from the central stock, is a visual metaphor for a growing family, and so whoever catches the bunch will be blessed with many children. But she’s not the first first lady whose fashion-forward legs have sparked sheer chaos. 

“High-power women and hosiery has been a hot-button issue for years,” lingerie expert Cora Harrington told The Post. 

Michelle Obama, Melania Trump and Meghan Markle have all come under fire for flexing their gams however they saw fit.

However, Markle, 39, boldly boasts her bare legs whenever she likes. 

Her choice to go hose-free in her engagement pictures in 2017 and while attending a charity performance of “Hamilton” at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre in 2018, nearly caused a castle coup. 

“You never see a royal without their nude stockings,” royals expert Victoria Arbiter told the press at the time. “I would say that’s really the only hard, steadfast rule in terms of what the queen requires.”

Why is everyone so uptight about ladies’ tights — or lack thereof?

Throughout most of the 20th century, stockings have been synonymous with femininity and required for any polished look.

Pantyhose made from silk or rayon were first popularized in the 1920s, along with shorter hemlines. DuPont first introduced nylon hosiery at the 1939 World’s Fair in New York; 4 million pairs were sold in four days when they went to market the following year.

Racier fishnets — with diamond-shaped patterns tending to accentuate curves and draw attention to the leg — were favored by the pin-up models of the 1950s.

Political spouses aside, the must-have pantyhose mentality started getting the old heave-ho in the late 1990s. 

“Society has seen movement away from pantyhose as a fashion accessory since the turn of the century,” Harrington said.
