The series was created by Hiroyuki Imaishi (PROMARE) and produced by Gainax. Imaishi went on to found the studio Trigger. ANN’s coverage of Anime Expo 2023 sponsored by Yen Press!

© Trigger, Hiroyuki ImaishiTrigger confirmed that the rights to the IP reverted from Gainax to Trigger. The “New Panty and Stocking” title in the visual above is only tentative.
Shigeto Koyama will return to work on the show as designer. Trigger also noted that Sushio wants to work as key animator on the show, but Trigger did not officially confirm his work on the project.
Trigger staff at the panel stressed that there might be stories in the new show that will be difficult to pull off today, but they plan to do it anyway. The staff jokingly noted that they have “so many ideas” that they could produce 10 seasons and a film that could be about “The Battle of Hoover Dam,” referencing the notable event from the video game Fallout: New Vegas, with season 6 being portrayed in picture books, and season 8 in figurines. The staff stressed that the studio can “do whatever [it] wants” on the show.
The 13-episode anime originally aired in 2010. Funimation released the anime on home video in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2019.
Hiroyuki Imaishi directed the anime at GAINAX. Geek Fleet was in charge of series composition, and the music featured songs from Teddyloid, Booty Bronx, Taku Takahashi, and more. Atsushi Nishigori was in charge of the character design.

The most interesting thing is if they will ignore the post credit scene or commit to it. It just felt like a joke ending, so now we will find out if it was or not.

Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt Revival Gets First Teaser at Anime Expo

Anime Expo 2023 kicked off in full might on Saturday, with fans showing up to learn about the biggest upcoming anime projects. During Studio Trigger’s annual panel, attendees had a chance to not only watch the premiere episode of the studio’s latest project, but also learn about the return of two beloved properties.Without a doubt, the most exciting reveal was a teaser for the return of the popular Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (which you can watch here), a show about two fallen angels causing chaos while trying to gain their way back to heaven. The anime was notable for its visual style, which paid homage to American cartoons, and its rather crude and irreverent humor. It was named as part of IGN’s list of best anime of the 2010s, which called it an “entertaining joy-ride with dozens of tributes to western cartoons and a bangin’ soundtrack.”The revival was first announced at last year’s Anime Expo – over a decade after the release of the original show – but very little information was revealed then. Director Hiroyuki Imaishi is returning for what was billed New Panty and Stocking (although that’s not the final title) alongside animation director Sushio, writer Hiromi Wakabayashi, and designer Shigeto Koyama. During the panel, studio president Masahiko Otsuka explained that the staff at Trigger has long been wanting to make a new Panty & Stocking, but they were unable to do so because the rights belonged to studio Gainax. Thankfully, that problem is no longer, as Trigger has gotten the full rights to the property back from Gainax and is free to make as many new Panty & Stocking projects as they want (Otsuka joked that they could go as far as 10 seasons and a movie, so take that Community!). As of now, there’s no word on whether this will be a film or a TV show, or when it will be released.Additionally, Imaishi and Otsuka shared a new trailer for a theatrical re-release of the two-part Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann film for its 15th anniversary. The films will be released in North America this winter, and they’ll be released in 4D.As for new projects, fresh off the release of the acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, audiences at Anime Expo got the chance to see an advance premiere of the first episode of the upcoming Delicious in Dungeon. The anime is an adaptation of Ryōko Kui comedy adventure manga, directed by Yoshihiro Miyajima (SSSS. Gridman and SSSS. Dynazenon). Delicious in Dungeon essentially follows a Dungeons & Dragons party as they venture through a dangerous dungeon — and eat everything they come across. The anime was revealed to be premiering on Netflix in January 2024. Fishnet stockings reel in Saddleback students to the ‘Cabaret’ show

Director and two lead actors dish on the workings of their performance of the hit musical ‘Cabaret’
‘Cabaret’ cast and director Andrew Palermo’s group picture on set | photo by Andrew Palermo
The Saddleback College theatre arts program put on another wonderful spring performance at the McKinney Theatre. The ingredients in this mixing pot included German history, whimsical music and dances in fishnet stockings.
“Cabaret” ran through April 1-9 and included six performances.
Director Andrew Palermo and musical director Mitchell Hanlon didn’t fail to bring the story of “Cabaret” to life. As an audience member, you could almost hear the detailed directions Palermo might have given to make this show what it is.
“Some directors are fantastic acting coaches,” Palermo said. “Some are deft stagers. Some have a vision that moves into the design areas. Others are detailed dramaturgs. If you can find a director with all of those qualities — and is hopefully a kind collaborator — Jackpot! I don’t think most of us have all of those qualities, but I’d say my colleagues and I endeavor to at least be versed and comfortable within each of those areas.”
This musical takes us back to 1930s Berlin — the afterhype of the jazz age and rise of Nazis. We focus in on the Kit Kat Klub, a very special cabaret nightclub where an inspiration-seeking American writer Clifford Bradshaw (performed by Sebastian Bojorquez) meets a talented dream-chaser, Sally Bowles (performed by Rachel Valdez). Clifford meets an assortment of interesting characters, but none as desirable as Fräulein Bowles.
We are guided by the Emcee (performed by Justin McCoy), whose sole purpose is to show, not tell. He entertains the audience with silly numbers, all the while expressing the severity of what is happening in the story — especially as early Nazi propaganda in Germany grows.
“As Sally and Emcee, we kind of provide ignorance for the audience to what’s happening in the current time period,” Valdez said. “So, I think that the numbers are really fun because of that but it is also very real, and I think it’s really important, specifically, for a lot of the stuff that’s happening now. Theatre is really important for people to sympathize with different things.”
As the story progresses, Clifford and Sally begin a relationship. The two discover the complexities of the world outside the comfortability of their little Cabaret. Though the entertainment never lacks, and the music is full of fun and heart, the show takes pride in its not-so-happy ending.
“I love that it’s a very real story,” McCoy said. “You’re dealing with real lives and real consequences, and real events that happened. Because of the build up of this such unfortunate movement that happened, you see how that affected people’s lives. And it ends on such a note that is not very happy, but it makes you think ‘wow.’”
Even with a shocking finale, this was a truly enjoyable performance and the cast and crew worked hard, honing in on every detail in order to bring it to life.
This is the type of show to make you feel something. McCoy goes on to boast about the “impactful” ending, and the feeling of his character center stage in a dead silent room.
“Audience reactions were really fun,” Valdez said. “Sort of getting to look them in the eyes and play with them a little bit.”
Audience reactions were practically essential to the performance. McCoy and Valdez said it gave them energy and that it was a friendly reminder that they’re doing their job right. Whether the audience was laughing, whistling, or going white-faced and dead silent, it truly made the show better.
The two lead actors also go on about the audition and rehearsal process, as well as challenges they faced making the show. Valdez mentions her difficulty with accents.
“We had a wonderful dialect coach, Jan,” she said, “and she gave us all individual things, as well as group stuff, that helped a lot with character work and also staying truthful to the time period and the sound.”
McCoy said he had difficulty with costuming — strutting in heels and fishnets — and the boldness of it all.
“It’s no secret that my character does not wear a lot of clothing on stage,” he said. “It’s kind of intimidating to be like, ‘okay, I’m just going to walk out and all these lights are going to be shining on me alone on stage wearing, like, almost no clothing.’”
The cast and crew are talented and committed to their art, but they are humble and cooperative, as well.
Palermo has enjoyed his time working at Saddleback and wanted to make sure the audience and his team knew it.
“I’ll admit that I was a bit reticent to work on such an important historical piece at a community college,” he said. “I’d never worked at a community college before and wasn’t sure what to expect. Now that the process has ended and we’ve closed the show, I…

Lucid Dreamer pulls off a stunning cosplay of Byleth with pattern fishnet stockings, The Sword of the Creator prop, and more

Byleth’s announcement for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on January 16, 2020 marked an interesting point for the Smash community. Since this was effectively the eighth Fire Emblem representative in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the character’s inclusion ended up being a controversial decision at the time.

Luckily, however, fans ended up warming up to the idea of the Fire Emblem rep essentially “taking up a character slot” in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after about a year. Looking back, Byleth’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s roster does make a lot of sense.

Something important to note is that Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Byleth’s debut video game appearance, currently stands as the most successful entry within the Fire Emblem series. As of today, Fire Emblem: Three Houses has sold over 3.82 million units worldwide.

Needless to say, the “professor” has become quite a popular character within the Fire Emblem community, and would eventually become popular within the Smash community as well. Of course, this means that Byleth is also a favorite among cosplayer enthusiasts.

As such, we recently took notice of Lucid Dreamer’s Instagram page. It turns out that Lucid Dreamer has numerous photos of her Byleth cosplay posted.

In all of the photos, Lucid Dreamer is portraying the professor with her dark teal blue hair. From this, we can conclude that Lucid Dreamer’s portrayal of Byleth is based on how she appears before the time skip within the Fire Emblem: Three Houses story.

Lucid Dreamer is also wearing Byleth’s default mercenary outfit, which is also how she appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. One of the most eye-catching traits about the female version of the character’s outfit is her unique pattern fishnet stockings, which are said to be difficult for cosplayers and costume designers to recreate.

Additionally, she also has something called a “belly window” incorporated into her outfit. Though this obviously exposes a weak point to enemies, it’s said that Byleth has adopted some rather terrifying combat abilities.

Due to these terrifying combat abilities and stoic nature, Byleth has earned herself the title of “The Ashen Demon” among her fellow mercenaries. However, many of her enemies would begin referring to her as the “Fell Star” during the events of Fire Emblem: Three Houses due to her deduced connection to Sothis.

Finally, we can also see that Lucid Dreamer is wielding an impressive prop of The Sword of the Creator. Though the professor also makes usage of Aymr, Areadbhar, and Failnaught in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the majority of the character’s attacks utilize The Sword of the Creator.

Check out Lucid Dreamer’s cosplay of Byleth below:
