By Akane Thanks to Madman, we had the chance to see the Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt series collection (Purple Edition) on Blu-ray.
Panty & Stocking (P&S) is the latest anime release from Studio Gainax (Neon Genesis Evangelion & Gurren Lagann). The story centers on two sisters, a couple of ex-angels named Panty and Stocking who have been kicked out of heaven for their naughtiness. In order to return, they have to battle ghosts in Daten City and collect enough Heaves coins (which appear after ghosts are defeated) to get their halos back.
P&S is like an anime version of the Cartoon Network’s Power Puff Girls or Dexter’s Laboratory, but made for adults. The show is outrageous, nasty and quite raunchy. Panty is a sex addict, while Stocking is obsessed with sweets; however, this doesn’t seem to be a problem for them or their taker a black, afro-sporting priest named Garterbelt, who is there to support them.
The story is quite random and parodies the genre of magical girls and many video clips. Somehow, it manages to be funny but sometimes a little vulgar for our taste. The drawings seem very basic, only getting better in the transformation scenes during the pole dancing. Moreover, the music really fits in this series, especially in the battle scenes.

The lingerie was no lie, and his fishnets weren’t fake!
Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya admitted to dressing in drag and considering suicide while his life was going down for the count because of self-inflicted, one-two punches of booze and cocaine addiction.
In a remarkable Spanish-language interview with Univision, the “Golden Boy” said he’s been clean for more than three months after hitting rock bottom in May and checking into rehab.
De La Hoya, 38, confirmed that scandalous pictures — of him in high heels, fishnet stockings and frilly lingerie — are real.
“Let me to tell you, yes, yes, it was me [in those pictures],” he told the news show “Aqui y Ahora,” or “Here and Now.”
The pictures also showed the bizarrely dressed boxer frolicking with Siberian knockout Milana Dravnel.
The Post published the photos on Nov. 15, 2007, following which De La Hoya insisted the pictures were frauds.
Now the ex-fighter has come clean: “I am tired now of lying, of lying to the public and of lying to myself.”
He said he was high on booze and cocaine when the racy photos were snapped.
After De La Hoya launched a campaign to discredit the wild images, Dravnel filed a federal lawsuit against him, claiming his handlers duped her into agreeing that the photos were manipulated.
They settled the lawsuit out of court and both sides clammed up, citing a confidentiality agreement.
But courthouse sources told The Post yesterday that De La Hoya shelled out a whopping $20 million to Dravnel to go away. The deal also called for her to give back the heels, lingerie and fishnets that she kept after their kinky photo session.
The cross-dressing photos sent De La Hoya into a tailspin, and he thought about throwing in the towel — permanently.
“One of these nights when I was drunk and alone again, I asked myself, ‘Is it worth it to be alive?’ I was already feeling like I had nothing,” he said. “And what is going through your mind are your children, your wife, the people who love you.”
The ex-boxer got an early start hitting the bottle, taking swigs at age 9.
His childhood boozing usually took place at family get-togethers, in back yards across his native East Los Angeles.
De La Hoya said uncles would send him to grab beer from the kitchen.
“I’d open the beer, and I’d drink some,” he added.

The official Twitter account for the Kobe-based Gainax West anime studio posted a message and image in Japanese and English on Thursday describing the “first step” of a Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt project. The studio said it set up a new project team to release a “new product” for the series, hold an exhibition, and set up a café in Kobe Anime Street.

The Japanese version of the Tweet states that the “new product” will go on sale between the beginning of March and April. The exhibit and café will run from the middle of February to April.
Gainax West posted an image in November that featured the words “Coming Soon” and what appeared to be outlines of the protagonists of the Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt anime series. The studio later updated the announcement by saying it would post more information on December 16, and the news would not be a pachinko, pachislot, social network game, or Blu-ray Disc.
Gainax launched the Gainax West branch in March. Producer Yasuhiro Takeda is in charge of the West location.
The 13-episode Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt television anime series aired in 2010. Funimation released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

You know what’s having a moment? A lot of things. But, specifically, fishnet tights. Some might argue that they’ve been having a moment since the 1920s, maybe even earlier. And they wouldn’t be wrong. But, thanks to a certain family known as the Kardashian-Jenners, they’ve been having even more of a moment, if you can believe it.It really is baffling. Once a product of any kind makes its way to Kim’s, Kendall’s, or Kylie’s social media, it’s like it never existed before that moment. Such is the life when you influence for a living. Heck, I even bought into the fad by buying my own pair of fishnets. My first ever, I should probably add. My experience was less than great (more on that later), but, in rightful Carrie Bradshaw fashion, I couldn’t help but wonder if that was due to the type of fishnets I purchased rather than my inability to accept that anything a Kardashian endorses is cool.Thus spawned my journey toward discovering fishnet nirvana. Over the weeks, I’ve tested out five different pairs from five different brands to see which ones are worth your money, time, and effort trying to figure out what to wear them with. Ranked from least to most favorite, check out my findings ahead.The Beyoncé-Approved PairIn a story published last month, Racked reported that Beyoncé’s backup dancers (and one can assume Beyoncé herself) wear fishnet tights during performances. Sometimes, up to four pairs?! “You have to keep it all supported,” the singer told The View. The brand of choice, according to Ashley Everett, Beyoncé’s dance captain, is Capezio. So, one of the first pairs I tried was, naturally, Capezio.And let me just say, I was not impressed. (Sorry, B!) The fabric of the pair I tried was, bizarrely, very itchy and definitely ran on the smaller side. I was left with deeper rivets in my skin than usual. They’re definitely not horrible, they seem very durable and unlikely to tear, but for something with the Queen’s stamp of approval, I was expecting more.Costume designer An Senofonte said about the brand: “Capezio fishnets are like the Spanx of fishnets. You really feel them on your legs, kind of pulling everything in.” Funny she should mention Spanx because…The Night Out PairIn my findings, Spanx fishnets are the Spanx of fishnets. Yep, the brand has its own version of the style. Maybe someone should tell Beyoncè? Kidding! She probably already knows. And, yes, they do suck everything in pretty firmly. This was another first for me: trying out Spanx. And I understand the hype now! Although, I made the mistake of wearing them under a pair of jeans rather than, say, a dress where I would’ve benefited more from its figure forming capabilities. One thing worth noting is that the top portion includes the body shaper, which means you can’t do the very Kardashian thing of pulling the waistband over your jeans. Well, you can, but it won’t look nearly as trendy.The Kardashian PairSpeaking of, that brings us to the pair I hinted at earlier. Like I mentioned, they’re absolutely not my favorite of the bunch. Some faults lie in the fact that it is a sprint to merely get them on. Since the diamonds are so large, they’re exponentially harder to navigate your legs and feet into (it took me a good five minutes). They also tangle very easily. This is true for all fishnets, but the unraveling process for these bad boys is perhaps more frustrating than tangled headphones.But! If the oversized look is what you’re gunning for, these are the gold standard. The exaggerated size of the style is perfect for wearing under cropped or ripped jeans, and the Kewl Kardashian factor (ugh) outweighs the inconvenience. These ASOS ones are sold out (which speaks to their popularity), but you can find similar versions here, here, or here.The Cheap In Price But Good In Quality PairI would just like to get this out of the way and ask: Can we please do away with the white cardboard squares most brands include with their tights? I’ve never understood their full function, and they become even more burdensome with fishnets when 80 percent of wearing the style is trying not to tear them.Anyway, you’d be wrong to write off convenience stores like CVS, Walgreens, or Duane Reade for your hosiery needs because, often, they have both good and affordable pairs. The proof is in Walgreen’s West Loop fishnets.For the cheapest pair on the list, they definitely provide a more than average experience. The mesh is a bit finer than others, but I’ve managed to go through several wears without any tears. Plus, they look just as good style-wise as the others on the list.One thing I did find weird with this particular pair is that there’s an outline of panties around the crotch area. …but I admit this trailer looks kinda cool. Is anyone here into Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt? If so, please write in and explain it to us.
It’s apparently a Japanese take on American cable cartoons. According to Amazon.com:
The Anarchy sisters, Panty and Stocking, are angels who were kicked out of Heaven due to bad behavior. They are sent to Daten City, a place located on the edge of Heaven and Hell, where creatures called “Ghosts” have run wild — feeding on human desire. Under the watchful eye of Reverend Garterbelt, it’s up to Panty and Stocking to destroy these Ghosts, in order to collect enough Heaven Coins to return to paradise. Only the Anarchy sisters can save humanity from these monsters and when they’re not bickering with each other, they’re unstoppable.

10 THE NAME OF THE CITY

After being kicked out of Heaven, Panty, and Stocking were sent to the city of Daten with Garterbelt to look after them. Daten City is filled with Ghosts for the angels to destroy. The city being called Daten is funny because of it being a pun on the word datenshi.

Datenshi is a Japanese word that means “fallen angel.” All because of the name, Daten City is the perfect place for sex-addicted and sweet-tooth glutinous angels to fight evil and earn their way back into Heaven.

9 BRIEFERS ROCK

From the names of the main characters being Panty, Stocking, and Gartbelt, it’s obvious that the theme they’re going for is lingerie and undergarments. After the first episode, another character named Brief “Briefers” Rock became part of Panty, Stocking, and Garterbelt’s team.

For those familiar with this anime, many may think that he is named Brief because of his sometimes brief appearances in the episodes. But then realizing that briefs are also a type of underwear is another explanation for why he is named that. He also has a crush on Panty which makes the whole situation even funnier. Panty and Briefers are meant to be together.

8 CHUCK GETTING STRUCK BY LIGHTNING

Chuck is a little green dog with zippers on his body that resembles GIR from Invader Zim. He is Panty and Stocking’s pet/sidekick. He is constantly being abused by everyone; especially Panty and Stocking throughout the anime. Things happen quickly in each episode, so it is sometimes hard to pay attention to each unfortunate thing that happens to Chuck.

Chuck gets struck by lightning often, and him getting struck by lightning is a way for the girls to receive clues from Heaven about Ghosts. When he gets struck by lightning it happens so quickly that it’s possible to miss. When you do catch it, it’s one of the funniest things that occur in this anime.

7 HONEKONEKO’S MANY FACES

Honekoneko is Stocking’s cat stuffed animal that she carries around with her a lot. Honekoneko, which is a Japanese word that means “Bone Kitten,” is a purple stuffed cat with half of its face missing on one side. Since Honekoneko isn’t confirmed to be alive, it’s hilarious when you notice that its facial expression changes to match Stocking’s mood at the moment.

It isn’t always noticeable because of how small Honekoneko is and how fast-paced the episodes are, but when you do catch its different facial expressions, it’s a fun surprise.

6 HIGH SCHOOL SEX-ED

In episode two, part one titled “The Turmoil of The Beehive,” Stocking and Panty are at Daten City High School to catch a Ghost. During a scene in the episode, the two angels are in a sex education class. This is a typical setting of a high school sex-ed class with the school’s coach teaching the class and promoting abstinence as aggressive as possible.

This is a funny joke because the coach tells the students that if they have sex they will die no matter what. The coach even hands Panty a condemn to use but still tells her she’s going to die.

5 “I’M ALLERGIC TO PLASTIC”

In the same episode, Panty and Stocking battles the “Queen Bee” of Daten City High. She is introduced by Brief running with one of her beehives on his head and a bunch of bees swarming around him. After running into Panty and Stocking in the hallway, the queen of the school while sitting on her thrown is then carried in.

Her name is Barby and she immediately insults the angels. Panty makes fun of her for referring to herself as Barbie, the “outdated fetish doll…” Stocking then says that she is “allergic to plastic.” What a great comeback.

4 “THAT’S THIS WEEK’S MORAL”
